Privacy policy

Last updated 29 July 2026. Plain English, we promise.

Who we are

Good Play Shop is run by Dr Gummer's Good Play Guide and FUNdamentally Children. We are the data controller for the information described in this policy. If you have any questions, email us at hello@goodplayguide.com.

What information we collect, and why

When you search for a shop. If you search by postcode or town, that search text is sent to postcodes.io, a free UK postcode lookup service, purely to convert it into a location for sorting results by distance. If you use "near me", your browser asks permission before sharing your location, and that location is used only in your browser to sort the shops you see. We do not store or receive your location or search postcode on any server, because this is a static website with no backend database.

When you apply to join as a retailer. The join form sends your shop details, contact details and declarations to Formspree, a form handling service, which emails the submission to us for review. This is the lawful basis of taking steps to enter into a contract with you as a retailer partner, and our legitimate interest in reviewing applications properly.

When you sign up for the newsletter or ask us to notify you about a shop in your area. We collect your email address so we can send the update or follow up, based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

How long we keep information

Retailer applications and correspondence are kept for as long as needed to administer the programme and for a reasonable period afterwards for our records, typically no more than three years after a shop leaves the programme. Newsletter and notify-me email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove them.

Cookies and local storage

This site currently uses no tracking cookies. It uses your browser's local storage only for essential functional purposes: saving your progress as you fill in the join form, remembering which accredited products you've marked as stocked in the retailer product tool, remembering search filters you've used on the find a product page, and remembering if you've asked to be notified about shops in your area. None of this leaves your browser or is sold or shared with anyone. If we ever add analytics or advertising cookies in the future, we will update this policy and ask for consent where required.

We do not sell your data

We never sell your personal information. We only share retailer application data with the service providers needed to run the programme, such as Formspree for form handling, and postcodes.io for postcode lookups, both under their own privacy terms.

Your rights under UK GDPR

You have the right to ask us for access to the personal information we hold about you, to have inaccurate information corrected, to have information erased, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@goodplayguide.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new features or services. We will update the date at the top of this page whenever we do.
